In 2009, the former winery “Julius Kayser” (the only one built in Art Nouveau style) with its collection of some 2,000 Buddhas from several Asian countries (including close and distant relatives such as Arhats and Bodhisattvas) was opened to the public. In a space of 5,000 square metres the visitor is provided with an insight into Buddhism by means of many pictures, sculptures and the religions of various cultures. These are supplemented by a modern multimedia installation which brings to life the many facets of Buddhism. The collection, some of whose sculptures are over 700 years old, is still growing and is intended to be used as an information centre for Buddhist art. It is already the largest of its kind in Europe.
