The Barock mansion, formerly owned by the Trarbach merchant family Böcking, houses the Mittel Mosel Museum – the home-town museum of the double town of Traben-Trarbach. The museum was founded in 1928 by the collector and local artist Dr. Ernst Willen Spies, and as a matter of course, his life’s work is exhibited here. Valuable items of furniture as well as art objects from three centuries are among the exhibits. Besides this comprehensive collection, the museum also gives us an insight into rural life in the 19th century, the history of the town of Traban-Trarbach, the history of Starkenburg Castle, and the fortifications of Mont Royal and Grevenburg.
