Historical City Tower

The City Tower, also known as the White Tower, originates from the 14th century. It was the north-west corner tower of the town fortification and stands completely preserved to this day. The town fortification originally had seven towers of which only two are still standing, the other being a half-exposed fortified tower.

After extensive renovation in 2004, a carillon of 28 bronze bells was added to the tower in commemoration of the town’s 100th anniversary. In the interior of the tower today a collection of historical fireplace and stove tiles can be viewed. These were all taken from the local museum’s stock.

In addition, the tower serves as an observation tower whose viewing deck offers a fine view over the double town on the Mosel.
