Located in the centre of Trier, Germany's oldest city, the foundation winery United Hospitia has been part of a foundation with a social mission since its foundation by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1804. Today, this foundation is made up of various social institutions whose main task is the care of the elderly and the sick, and which are still partly financed by the income of the foundation's winery.
The wine cellar, which was awarded the title "Highlight of Wine Culture" by the DWI Wine Institute in 2010, is one of the oldest in Germany. Its origins can be traced back to the time of the Roman Trier around 330 AD. The winery is a founding member of the VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikats- und Qualitätsweingüter) and the European Foundation Wineries.
