The unplastered quadrangular tower with its quarry stone Brook Gate was part of the town fortifications. It served as a protection against the troops in the brook valley, hence the name „Bachturm“ (Brook Tower). The tower is 22 metres high with its six storeys and the ground floor.
It was used in those times as an official prison. In the 19th century the two arches were created as a passage to the cemetery.
