Report an issueUp until 1938, services were held in the Synagogue, but during World War Two it was completely destroyed by the SA (storm troopers). After the war, efforts were made by the mayor of the town to keep the synagogue as a memorial.
When a preservation order was put on the castle and the new owners were given the property for restoration purposes, a local group for the restoration of the synagogue showed commitment to the cause. This group, “Friends of the Synagogue, Zell” ensured that from 2003 the former synagogue could be used as a memorial and as a space for cultural events and exhibitions.
