The birthplace of Maria Magdalena Keverich, the mother of the famous composer Ludwig van Beethoven, is situated in the district of Ehrenbreitstein. In 1746 Beethoven's mother was born in this house, which is a really fine example of bourgeois architecture of the 17th century. It has been a museum and Beethoven memorial since 1975. It represents the cultural history of Ehrenbreitstein as well as that of the Keverich family and hence of Beethoven's ancestry. In addition there are exhibits of Beethoven's youth and his time in Vienna.
Since 2002, the listed building Mutter-Beethoven-Haus has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley.
